MODEL COURT JOINS CAMPAIGN TO STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS

Worldwide, UN Women reported that [1] 35 percent of women have experienced physical and/or sexual abuse at some point of their lives, [2] almost half of women homicide victims were killed by their intimate partners or family members, [3] 700 million women alive today were married as children, [4] 120 million girls have experienced forced sexual acts, [5] at least 200 million women and girls alive today have undergone female genital mutilation, and [6] at least 70 percent of human trafficking victims are women and girls.

In the Philippines, the numbers on violence committed against women and girls as presented by Rappler below is indeed disturbing and unacceptable.

An unwilling human face to this violence is actress Maria Teresa Carson, wife of the infamous politician Rudy Farinas who is currently a member of the 17th Congress of the Philippines, whose domestic abuse from her husband is well publicized until that fateful day on 21 November 2001 when she finally jumped to his death from the 23rd floor of a condominium.

It was her sad and frightening story that galvanized a group of women's organizations to form Task Force Maria that eventually led to the legislation of Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-violence Against Women and Children Act.

From November 25 which is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women until International Human Rights Day on December 10, a 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence will be held to raise public awareness and mobilize popular support to stop the violence.

During these days, the United Nations Secretary General invites everyone to "Orange the World" and show support.

Model Court is one with the world in finally stopping all forms of violence against women and girls.

And at their November regular meeting, the Honored Ladies linked hands to symbolize their solidarity and commitment, and gave their solemn vow to continue working in achieving a violence-free life and future for all women and girls.

"We vow never to commit VAW."

"We vow never to condone VAW."

"We vow never to be silent on VAW."

ADVANCE NIGHT AND A NEW SIR KNIGHT!

In observance of the traditional Advance Night for incoming Royal Matrons and Patrons across the jurisdiction of the Grand Court of the Philippine, Associate Matron Maricel Landingin and Associate Royal Patron Arnel Landingin presided over the Court's regular meeting for November 2016.

Except of course during the initiation rites for Sir Knight Kristian Ronald Sioson who was accepted to the Order of the Amaranth in a ceremony presided by Royal Patron Shubert Ciencia under the guidance of Royal Matron Baby Liza Ciencia and Assistant Grand Lecturers Emerita Fernandez of Model Court No. 55 and Haydee Floro of Pantabangan-Bonari Court No. 46.

The meeting was highlighted by a celebration of the Court's 6th founding anniversary --- a sweet milestone that was properly indulged by a Nips and Kit Kat studded chocolate cake and partaken by the Honored Ladies and Sir Knights in attendance, in moderation of course as reminded by the Court's year-long Diabetes Awareness Program.

For two days, Model Court No. 55 joined fellow subordinate Courts of Amaranthine District 5 in a Family Day in Baler, Aurora that was hosted by DDGRM Preciline Andaya and DDGRP Irineo Dones, Jr.

And here are the highlights of that:
